The CBDC was founded in 2017 by Erika M. Smith. At age sixteen, Erika began her career in animal instruction by training guide dogs for the blind. From 2011-2015 she attended Oregon State University majoring in Animal Sciences, and worked in the Human-Animal Interaction Lab developing her knowledge of animal behavior and positive reinforcement training. She interned at the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City as an Animal Behaviorist using her skills of positive reinforcement training. She worked with a large variety of exotic animals including their fourteen-year-old polar Bear, Rizzo. She currently has three dogs - Nana has been trained as a trained service and therapy animal, while Odin and Schatzi are both masters in advanced obedience and off-leash trained.
