A Sound Beginning Program

A unique training program created specifically for the newly adopted dog to help build a positive relationship, gain trust and set your dog up for success.

The main goal of A Sound Beginning Program is to reduce and eliminate the stress that normally is part of the transition period from shelter/rescue to living in a home. It not only helps dogs to become adoptable, it ultimately keeps them from being returned.

The result of taking the Path to Success classes is that a better relationship based on understanding both ends of the leash is established, which is the foundation for a lifetime of learning.

A Sound Beginning Program teaches people the language of dogs:

• How dogs learn
• How dogs read our body language
• How we can learn to read a dog’s body language
• How we can use that knowledge to keep our pets and families safe
• What we can do to prevent undesirable behavior
• What we can do when something unpredictable happens
• How we can begin to establish a bond and build trust

A Sound Beginning Program began with a book written by Julie Dorsey-Oskerka, Patricia Rattray, & Rebecca Cann: “Adopting a Dog? Start off right with…A Sound Beginning”. Having the book available at the time of adoption provides immediate guidance by addressing issues that are common when integrating a new dog into an already established family. The fully illustrated book includes a sound therapy CD to alleviate stress and aid in comforting the dog in his new surroundings.

SUPPORT for shelters, rescue organizations, foster homes, training facilities, trainers, veterinarians, and adopters, is what the
