Dog Training with Caroline - The Ogwell Dog Trainer

All aspects of dog training undertaken. One-One Dog Training Lessons. Puppy Classes. Clicker Training. Recall workshops

I have been dog training for about 33 years but originally became qualified as a puppy instructor with the association of pet dog trainers in 2000. In the past I held dog training classes at Animals in Distress for dogs that had been rehomed from there, as well as providing behavioural help and advice for the dogs looking for homes. At this time I regularly competed in Agility competitions and also held weekly agility classes.

At present I concentrate on pet dog training and puppy socialisation classes as well as offering residential dog training in my boarding kennels in East Ogwell, just outside Newton Abbot.

I am a member of The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers and try to go on as many courses, workshops and seminars as I can to keep up to date with current training methods.

I first started dog training back in 1982 when I completed a puppy instructor certificate and also the John Fisher 'think dog' certificate. I am a former member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, and have attended many seminars and workshops with the likes of Dr Ian Dunbar, John Rogerson, Sarah Whitehead, Steve Mann and Nando Brown amongst others. I am currently studying with the IMDT (institute of modern dog trainers). All training is force free using reward based and positive methods.
My passion is dogs body language and I love watching the dogs that come to the kennels on holiday interact with each other. I am lucky to be able to spend every day with dogs, whether it be working in the kennels or dog training. I also share my life with 7 dogs of my own. I have 5 patterdale/jack russells, a Cypriot hound that “found” me when I was on holiday in Cyprus 6yrs ago and have recently added to my family with a beautiful working cocker spaniel pup who is an absolute delight.
I can teach you how to train your dog or puppy using modern, fun, reward based methods. There is no need for harsh methods, such as choke chains or squirt bottles in this day and age. Everyone wants their dog to be happy and well-behaved and this can be achieved by teaching him good manners. Sometimes having a puppy, as wonderful as it is, can feel like a real challenge. I have the experience and knowledge to guide you through what can be a challenging time and help you teach your dog basic manners and control, in a positive and calm way resulting in a happy, well-mannered dog and a happy house.
