Waikato Canine Obedience Club

We all know there is nothing worse than trying to live with a badly-behaved, unruly dog. Do you want a happy dog, who knows how to behave, who walks beside you, not tugging on the leash? Obedience classes are an investment in a happy life for your dog.

We train on Tuesday nights, from 6.30pm at Bristol Park in Te Rapa. Handlers usually start in a beginner class, and then progress through the classes.

> Baby Puppy Obedience – 6 weeks
Baby puppy obedience focuses on developing a good foundation for basic obedience, building a strong bond between you and your puppy as well as helping to establish good puppy manners. We can also assist with toilet training, feeding and other helpful tips for coping with the newest member of your family.

Established for puppies aged between 8 & 16 weeks, these classes have been developed especially for young puppies and offer more than just socialisation and playgroup sessions. Baby Puppy Obedience has been designed & instructed by experienced obedience trainers to ensure a solid foundation is established for these young dogs and is intended as an introductory step to our Beginner Puppy Class.

Class space is strictly limited.

> Beginner Puppy/ Beginner Adult – 10 week course
Beginner handlers get a good foundation for teaching their dog basic obedience. We teach you to teach your dog, and cover basic obedience commands: sit, down, come, stay, wait and heel – how to walk on a loose leash. This list is not the complete list of what will be taught in this course but only a guideline.

> Intermediate – 10 week course
Designed for handlers who have already completed the beginner class, Intermediate handlers will learn more control skills. Exercises in this class include distance control, working your dog when it is away from you, sit and down stays, drop on command, heelwork on lead, recall as well as food and toy refusal. This list is not the complete list of what will be taught in this course but only a guideline.

> Domestic Development 1 and 2
These classes are for handlers and dogs who have already completed 20 – 30 weeks of obedience training. Both levels are designed to promote good manners in your dog, and give handlers better skills for taking their dog into social situations.

Food and/or toys are encouraged in this course and so are other training aids ie. Clickers etc. This class covers: Drop on command, manners, clicker skills, first aid, walking on a loose leash, long distance recalls, greeting strangers. This list is not the complete list of what will be taught in this course but only a guideline.
