Newfoundland Search Dogs
Newfoundland Search Dogs Inc is a registered not-profit organization (66795) aiming to become a certified and registered Search and Rescue Organization in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
1)Support local authorities in Search and Rescue (SAR) efforts
2)Provide certified canine SAR teams
3)Provide qualified SAR training for canine teams
4)Provide guidance on responsible dog ownership and positive training methods
The Newfoundland Search Dogs are a purely volunteer organization focused around the partnership between dog and human for the betterment of our local community. Search and Rescue dogs are a vital and useful tool which can be utilized in working towards furthering public safety. Currently the group has two certified Handler and Dog teams. While still at an early stage of development, Newfoundland Search Dogs is vigorously working towards a goal of further canine team certification.
The Certification process allows teams to be qualified as a Certified Search and Rescue dog and handler team. Once certified such a team can then be utilized by local authority or other groups in the aid of lost person searches. Currently the St.John’s area does not have a privately developed Search and Rescue volunteer canine group and we are hoping to provide such a service.
