Welcome to the North Island Bull Terrier Club. The club supports preservation breeders and is affiliated with the New Zealand Kennel Club; Bull Terriers and Miniature Bull Terriers are our primary interest!



OBJECTIVES

(i) To promote the breeding and exhibiting of healthy Bull Terriers conforming to the official standard of the New Zealand Kennel Club Incorporated (NZKC). Please note that this means NZKC registered Bull Terriers.

(ii) To promote friendship and co operation amongst breeders, owners and exhibitors of Bull Terriers and to assist them in every way possible for the benefit of the breed.

(iii) To hold ribbon parades, Open and Championship shows in accordance with the rules and regulations of the NZKC.


Welcome to the North Island Bull Terrier Club. The club is affiliated with the New Zealand Kennel Club, and Bull Terriers are our primary interest!

Membership is open to any Bull Terrier & Bull Terrier (Miniature) lover, you don't need to even own the breed.

You are certain to have come here because you love Bull Terriers. They are very distinctive looking and definitely have their own set of behaviours. However, many unregistered Bull Terriers are bred without any knowledge of the breed standard and these dogs are losing the unique look of the breed due to ‘nearly’ Bull Terriers being bred from and advertised as pure. NZKC breeders are preservation breeders. They certify that their puppies are pure by registering them with NZKC pedigrees. One of these registration certificates is your gold standard when buying a puppy.

The breed standard is a written description of what the Bull Terrier should look like and is the blueprint for each and every mating. Sure you might not care about pedigree papers… but can you guarantee that what you are buying is actually 100% Bull Terrier if you buy dogs that don’t have Kennel Club, registered pedigrees? There are hundreds of dogs advertised on Trademe every year as ‘purebred without papers’ when in fact nearly every single one of these dogs/pups are crossbreds. The first thing these pups lose is the distinctive ‘downfaced’ egg-shaped head. A pedigree is a certified family history produced by the New Zealand Kennel Club. A dog is only a pedigree if he/she has this certified paperwork.

The club welcomes ALL Bull Terriers and is able to include ‘nearly Bull Terriers’ in the fun events (ie Olympics, Bully walks). By doing so we hope we can teach fans of the BT about how the breed is supposed to look and behave. If the breeding of unregistered dogs continues as it is now we will lose the unique look that drew us to this breed in the first place.

The club, originally known as the Auckland Bull Terrier Club was first registered with the Incorporated Societies in September 1973. It became the North Island Bull Terrier Club in 1999.

To promote friendship and cooperation amongst breeders, owners and exhibitors of Bull Terrier and to assist them in every way possible for the benefit of the breed.
