I am a professionally trained Dog Listener, based in Hobart, Tasmania. I trained with Jan Fennell, the 'original' Dog Listener, and her son, Tony Knight in the UK, in 2006 and 2007.
Dog Listening goes to the heart of the day-to-day lifestyle and leadership relationship we establish with our dogs, and helps us understand and be able to address the cause of their behaviour – not just the symptoms ie nervousness & anxiety, jumping up, pulling on the lead, barking, aggression towards dogs or people etc. Most behavioural issues can be successfully resolved through adopting Dog Listening techniques and with patient work from owners. It is a great technique to start younger dogs off with, and thus avoid entrenched unruly behaviour, and have all family members understand how to interact successfully with the dog. However, it works for dogs of all ages and breeds.
I help people through 1-2-1 family consultations in their own homes. I also occasionally run classes and do talks, and presentations to interested groups.
I also breed Border Collies (3rd generation of dogs raised with this method).
